Ready for some football?

The Euro-Cup just started here, and we've been going to some of the free public viewings of the games... They set up a large(ish) screen on the riverbank right in the center of the city for people to watch. It wasn't too crowded in Saturday (below) when we went to see the opening game, but we still got there well before the game started to claim a spot.

I got a kick out of seeing the odd little differences between this and the sporting events I'd been to in the US. Below, you see the mobile bar, selling good draft beer in nice hard plastic glasses -- not exactly the same as some guy yelling through the crowd, "Getcher ice-cold cans a Bud Lite!"

It wasn't cold outside -- but for some reason scarves are popular fan items here -- something like a "terrible towl" or cheese hat, I guess.
When in Deutschland...

And finally, last night Germany played their first game. And the crowd went wild. The video below is from the opening of that game.
Final score: Germany 2 - Poland 0.

Very difficult for me to picture a sporting event with out cheeses on the heads.

Video was helpful.
