We arrived in Dresden on May 14th at 10AM after flying from Pittsburgh the night before, through Detroit and Frankfurt. We were exhausted when we arrived, but were met by our lovely roommate Tanja and her friend Anna at the airport. They took us to our new home and left us to nap a little and get settled. It didn't take long for us to recover from the travel and start exploring the city ...
...and we're having a great time!
This is a view from the roof of the Zwinger -- a large complex with museums inside. We were going to take advantage of the grey day yesterday and go inside to see the paintings, sculpture, and armour -- but when we got to the old city we found that it was teeming with tourists (way more than usual due to the fact that it was Friday, and there was a music festival). So we just walked around and wend to a Biergarten across the river.
Here's another overcast view of the old city from a park across the river -- you'd almost think we were still in Pittsburgh with how many grey days we've been having.
And another closer view... This time with roses and the side of the bridge we usually walk across. Very pretty.
We've just been leading a quiet little life here so far. Jacob's classes don't start until June 3rd, so we're just enjoying a relaxing introduction the city. We wander around and stop in the bakeries to buy fresh bread... I'm sure there will be more to report soon, but for now we're just soaking up the little details of the streets near our apartment.
