As some of you know, my Godmother Renie was diagnosed with cancer very recently. At first it looked really severe and scary, so I made a last minute decision to fly home for the weekend before taking off for Germany (we're in Deutschland now -- more to come on that soon). If you want to read more about Renie's situation, please visit her caring bridge site (link to the right).
It was just wonderful to see them -- we were all in quite a heightened state at that point, as there wasn't any solid information. All we knew was that our time might be terribly short, so we just laughed a lot and hugged eachother.
I feel really blessed to have been able to see my loved ones again before the summer -- it was certainly an unexpected treat. The weather was beautiful too, so we took lots of walks by the creek near Renie's place. Another unexpected delight came when my mom decided to drive across from Green Bay to see us all.
We celebrated, since we didn't know what else to do with ourselves in the situaion. We had many lovely meals together, including a Mother's Day brunch with some of the nearest and dearest.
Happily, the outlook is looking somewhat better for Renie, as we find out more about her condition. We'll just have to wait and see how things play out though. I'm certainly excited to think that she probably will be able to make it to my wedding afterall -- and hopefully many more joyful gatherings as well.
