Fresh off the boat...
The day after arriving back in the country, I got to spend some time with my dear friend Carol here in Manhattan. It still makes me laugh to think of how clean, quiet, orderly and spacious Manhattan felt to me, having just returned from India.
Here I am with Gemma -- my darling NY hostess, and best friend from seventh grade. This dear woman has seen me graciously through the initial days of two major sets of jet-lag and culture shock (post-India 2007 and post-Berlin 2006). Maybe that's why she moved back to Minneapolis this fall -- so she wouldn't have to play hostess to this crazy traveler anymore!

...hanging out with Dad at the party he threw for me, back home in Minneapolis. It was amazing to finally be home, enjoying a summer BBQ with so many of my favorite people after dreaming of it so often on the other side of the world.
